Pre Professional Mentorship Program

Extensions Dance Center:

A Home for Artists, A Foundation for Life

For 22 years, Extensions Dance Center has been an institution and a home for young artists—a place where dancers are encouraged to discover their individuality, foster their creativity, lead with integrity, and pursue their own unique paths.

At the heart of our mission is a belief that every dancer’s journey matters. That journey may lead to a professional career in dance, to continued study at a university or conservatory, or toward an entirely different future. Whatever that path may be, our responsibility as an arts institution extends far beyond teaching movement. We are here to guide our dancers and their families with knowledge, genuine care, love, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to their growth.

Over the past 22 years, Lizzie MacKenzie, alongside the extraordinary faculty who have been part of the Extensions community, has personally coached, mentored, encouraged, and assisted countless young artists as they have navigated the next steps of their education and careers.

The impact of that mentorship can be seen throughout our alumni community. Without even consulting the prolific alumni wall that tells so much of our story, our Extensions family includes Juilliard graduates, USC graduates, Ailey/Fordham graduates, NYU graduates, Boston Conservatory graduates, University of Arizona graduates, Chapman University graduates and current dance majors, as well as alumni who have gone on to SUNY, PACE, Marymount, and countless other institutions. And those are only the names and accomplishments that immediately come to mind.

Just as meaningful are the numerous Extensions dancers who are now working successfully as professional artists throughout the country and beyond. What makes us especially proud is that these relationships do not end when a dancer walks out of our doors for the last time. So many of our alumni continue to maintain meaningful relationships with Lizzie, our faculty, and the Extensions community to this day.

Because we don’t believe our responsibility ends when a dancer graduates from our studio.

We believe we are invested in their journey for life.

The lessons we strive to instill at Extensions reach far beyond technique and performance. Our dancers learn leadership, confidence, discipline, time management, accountability, respect, communication, collaboration, resilience, and how to build and nurture meaningful relationships. They learn how to work hard, how to advocate for themselves, how to receive feedback, how to navigate challenges, and how to contribute to something larger than themselves. Most importantly, they learn that there is value in being uniquely themselves.

For families navigating the many decisions that come with a young dancer’s growth—whether that means pursuing dance at a higher level, preparing for college auditions, exploring a professional career, or simply determining what comes next—Extensions Dance Center is a place where they can find guidance, experience, honesty, and genuine support.

We know this journey because we have walked it alongside hundreds of dancers before them.

We will continue walking alongside our dancers—not simply until they leave our doors, but wherever their journey takes them afterward.

Extensions Dance Center is more than a dance studio. It is a community, a mentorship, a foundation, and a home for artists—one that believes in the potential of every dancer and remains invested in who they become long after the music stops.

Introducing the Extensions Dance Pre-Professional Mentorship Program

At Extension’s Dance Center, We have always believed that our responsibility to our dancers extends far beyond their time in our studios. From the moment a dancer walks through our doors, we are invested not only in the artist they are becoming, but in the person they will become—and in helping them discover where their unique talents, passions, and goals can take them.

For Lizzie MacKenzie, this has never been a new concept.

Since the day Extensions opened its doors, Lizzie has been mentoring dancers through the many decisions and transitions that come with pursuing a future in the arts. She has guided countless young artists through college auditions, conservatory applications, professional opportunities, career decisions, and the often overwhelming process of figuring out, “What comes next?”

Now, we are giving that longstanding commitment a name, a structure, and a defined place within the Extensions experience.

Introducing the “official” Pre-Professional Mentorship Program

Beginning in their junior year of high school, dancers who participate in our Pre-Professional Mentorship Program will have a dedicated team in their corner as they begin preparing for life beyond Extensions.

Led by Lizzie MacKenzie and Jackie Nowicki, this program will provide individualized mentorship and practical guidance as each dancer begins defining their own goals and exploring the possibilities ahead.

Together, Lizzie and Jackie bring decades of experience as professional artists, educators, choreographers, mentors, and advocates for young dancers. Their careers have taken them through diverse corners of the dance world—from performance and choreography to higher education, professional training, teaching, and artistic leadership. Just as importantly, they have built lasting relationships throughout the dance community and understand that there is no single path to a successful life in the arts.

Our goal is not to tell a dancer what their future should look like.

Our goal is to help each dancer discover the future that is right for them—and then give them the tools, knowledge, relationships, and support to pursue it with confidence.

What Does Mentorship Look Like?

The Pre-Professional Mentorship Program will include, but will not be limited to:

  • One-on-one mentorship meetings to begin meaningful conversations about individual goals, interests, strengths, and aspirations.
Personalized guidance in identifying opportunities available to each dancer now that can help position them for future success.
Family meetings and parent/guardian guidance as families begin researching colleges, universities, conservatories, training programs, and other post-high-school pathways.
  • School and program research support, helping dancers and families understand the differences between programs and identify environments that align with their individual goals.
  • Scholarship and financial-aid guidance, including resources and strategies for navigating the financial side of higher education and training.
  • Application preparation and video recording sessions to help dancers present themselves professionally and authentically through audition and application materials.
  • Resume development and guidance, including how to appropriately present training, performance experience, education, choreography, teaching, awards, and other accomplishments.
  • Audition and application preparation, including guidance on what to expect, how to prepare, and how to confidently represent yourself. Professional development and industry insight, helping dancers understand the expectations and realities of pursuing a professional career.
  • Continued mentorship and support as dancers navigate the decisions, challenges, opportunities, and transitions that come with their next chapter.

And perhaps most importantly, this program provides something that cannot be found on a college website or in an application handbook: People who know you.

People who have watched you grow.

People who understand your strengths, recognize your potential, know where you still have room to grow, and genuinely care about what happens next.

Your Extensions Team Doesn’t End at Graduation.

We want every dancer and family who becomes part of Extensions to know that they have a team beside them.

  • A team with experience.
  • A team with knowledge.
  • A team with relationships throughout the dance and higher-education communities.
  • A team that will celebrate their successes, help them navigate their challenges, answer the questions they don’t know how to ask, and advocate for them as they find their way forward.

Because at Extensions, we don’t believe that our job is finished when a dancer leaves our studio.

That is simply the beginning of a new chapter.

Our Pre-Professional Mentorship Program formalizes something that has been setting Extensions apart for 22 years: our commitment to knowing our dancers, understanding their individual journeys, and supporting them long after they leave our doors.

Every dancer’s future will look different.

Some will pursue professional careers in dance. Some will continue their education at universities and conservatories. Some will discover entirely new passions and paths. And some will find a way to weave dance into a life that looks nothing like what they initially imagined.

All of those journeys are worthy.

Our mission is to help them find theirs.

And wherever that journey leads, Extensions will be cheering them on—and, whenever they need us, walking beside them.

BRAVO to each and every one of our dancers and dance makers and special congratulations to Libi Horn & Nicole Noe for their piece entitled “Listen” and Shayna Sharpe for her piece entitled “The Formation” both being selected by our panel to perform in the Studio showcase this Sunday full out with lights & costumes! Our fifth and final senior spotlight is the absolu Our fifth and final senior spotlight is the absolutely gorgeous Gabriella Wright. This has been a hard couple of years for Gabriella with continual foot and ankle issues that have prevented her from dancing with Extensions Dance Company. She has had multiple surgeries to correct the issue and while she is (thankfully) able to take classes with us, she still has discomfort and cannot dance the rigorous hours it takes to be part of the company BUT… she has remained a strong member of our family and community at Extensions and Extensions Dance Company. She has been a staple at the studio for 7 years and we are grateful she has continued to dance with us and show up for her friends and colleagues the way she has. Anyone who has seen Gabriella dance remembers her (cannot forget her) because she dances with a fullness and strength that is way beyond her years and it’s even more captivating with the subtleties that are so unique to this gorgeous artist. Gabriella you are stunningly beautiful on the outside with a heart to match on the inside and although we know it’s been a hard couple of years, we will continue to stand with you and hope that dance can somehow find its way into your future. You are too talented and too special to not share it with the world somehow. Thank you for being you, Gabo… and thank you for making the trek from Elmhurst all these years to be part of our family, we absolutely adore you and can’t wait to see what you do in your future!!

✨-My favorite memory was the exd lock-in we had before we stopped doing it.

✨-My favorite dance I was in was Snookered because it was so fun to dance with the big girls when I was little

✨-I want to thank my amazing mom for always supporting and loving me. And of course Lizzie and Jackie for always being there for me and pushing me

✨-A piece of advice i’d give to an incoming exd member would be to know how lucky they are to be a part of such an incredible and safe space and to enjoy it because time goes very fast

Gabriella will attend the University of Tampa in the fall.
Senior Spotlight #4 is a tough one to wrap our hea Senior Spotlight #4 is a tough one to wrap our heads around. The last of the Noe family legacy is the youngest of 3 incredibly talented girls who have come up through our program. A family who has made the trek from Naperville to Chicago multiple times/week for 14 YEARS so all three of their girls could be part of our family here at Extensions. Geesh, crying just writing this… it’s Nicole Noe, friends. She is graduating and we can’t believe the third little cherub will leave us in just over a week. Can’t see through the tears right now…. Everyone knows her, everyone loves her, she is the most kind hearted, sensitive in all the right ways, curious and smart friend/colleague you could ever ask for. She’s always there to lend a hand, often being the last in the dressing room with her directors at the end of a long competition weekend to help clean up the mess and she is the one who will spend those extra hours before/after to support the younger dancers of the company. This girl is a true Gem of a human being, a dedicated and consistent artist and my gosh, we don’t know how we will go on without her, or a single Noe family member with us next year…anyone have suggestions how we can cope?! Nicole, the way you love your people, your community and your family both by birth and those you have chosen is truly something that can change the world. Always lead with your heart the way you have here at Extensions and we thank you with the deepest of gratitude for everything you have shared with us form your heart, your soul and your spirit. To find out some fun info from Nicole, swipe above and read her memories, favourites and thank yous on slides. We love you, Nicole. Good luck in your next chapter, we know it will amaze us what you do next with your life.

✨Fun Facts:

* She will attend Point Loma Nazarene University in the fall with a major in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Pre-allied health
* She plans to continue on to Graduate school to get an M.S. degree in occupational therapy, to become an occupational therapist in the future
* She hopes to join the new PLNU dance team launching in the fall to continue her dance journey!

Senior Spotlight #2…… Julia Kozlowski has been suc Senior Spotlight #2…… Julia Kozlowski has been such a staple at the studio for so long it’s honestly hard to imagine how we even exist without her. 🥺 How will we know every count and detail that was given?! That sharp mind and kind yet tenacious spirit will be deeply missed as she embarks on her next chapter that is sure to be filled with nothing short of profound success! With regards to counts and details, (peep her advice below) luckily we have more sharp minds ready to step into the very big shoes that will be left to fill in Julia’s absence. It’s Senior celebration week and we are NOT OKAY 😭 It’s Senior celebration week and we are NOT OKAY 😭. First up is the gorgeous inside and out, silly yet focused and driven, a girl who knows how to have fun while bringing light and laughter to everyone around her. It’s Bianca Noonan, the super stunner with a ❤️ of gold.

✨It’s very difficult for me to pick just one favorite memory of being apart of the EXD company and community. Every moment spent in the studio with my best friends and the greatest teachers in the Chicagoland area have made me forever grateful to be apart of Extensions and Chicago City Classical Ballet. Through all that life has thrown at me the past 6 years, I can proudly say that everyone has supported me and made a positive impact on my life. I have so many favorite dances ranging from solos, variations, trios, and group dances but one that will forever stand outis a trio called “Only Time” choreographed by Brian Rabenda. This trio didn’t just give me my first concussion, but it helped me dance a texture of elegance with the beautiful artistry it portrayed.

✨My Extensions family is abundant in support no matter what. A special thank you goes to all of the dance moms and dads in the EXD community along with my fellow company members. And an endless amount of gratitude goes to Lizzie and Lauren for providing such a beautiful space filled with beautiful people. My last expression of thanks goes to my mentors Tatyana, Lizzie, Jackie, and Taylor. My dance training you all have given me will help me achieve all of my dreams beyond the dance studio doors. I want all of my company members to remember there has to be a balance between fun and work so one way to do it is to make you work fun! Be goofy, but still strive for excellence. There’s always room for growth and each class can bring new challenges and accomplishments. No matter what life throws my way, I will always carry with me everything I have been given from EXD and it’s been an incredible 6 years with the best people! So much love, Bianca (B) (Bonka)

✨This fall I will be attending the University of Tampa majoring in Health Science on track for a masters degree in Athletic Training.
