Kara Zimmerman
Bio
Kara was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and started dancing when she was 8 years old. She trained at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in Carlisle, PA, and during the summers travelled to Seattle, WA to train on full scholarship at Pacific Northwest Ballet’s summer program. After graduating high school, she was asked to stay year round to continue training at PNB’s Professional Division Program. Kara spent two years in the program, and then was invited to join the company as a member of the Corps de Ballet. She spent the next 8 seasons dancing and touring the USA and abroad with PNB. After PNB, Kara joined the Cincinnati Ballet as a Senior Soloist for one season, and then went on to spend the next 6 seasons in Chicago with the Joffrey Ballet. In 2015, Kara was invited to join the Victor Ullate Ballet Company in Madrid, Spain where she performed throughout Spain and France, and also toured to Bogota, Colombia and Montevideo, Uruguay, in South America. During her time with these companies she has danced principal roles in works by William Forsythe, Christopher Wheeldon, Nacho Duato, Geaorge Balanchine, Wayne McGregor and many others.
Kara is currently a freelance dancer and has had the privilege to be invited as a Principal Guest Artist all over the United States, and most recently internationally in South Korea, as well as teaches and coaches in schools throughout the United States. In October 2018, Kara received her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Certification and will incorporate her experience of movement and breath from being a dancer in her yoga classes.
