Diamond Gant
Bio
Diamond Gant is a Chicago based professional dancer, choreographer, and social media content creator. She began her dance training at the early age of 4 years old in The Fieldcrest School of Performing Arts.
While attending Fieldcrest, she received training in styles such as tap, ballet and jazz. In later years, she went on to continue her dance training and began exploring other styles of dance such as modern dance and hip hop. In high school, she participated in the Joffrey Ballet intensive program where she gained foundational training in Modern dance and Intermediate level Ballet under the direction of Piere Lockett. Additionally, Diamond also participated in the After School Matters program where she received her first introduction to professional level hip hop dance training.
After High school, Diamond went on to attend Loyola University Chicago where she ultimately received a bachelors in Multimedia Journalism. While a student at the University, it became hard for her to balance pursuing her degree and passion for dance at the same time but she was determined to never lose sight of her first love..Dance! In her Sophomore year, she joined a Hip Hop training and performance-based dance team known as “Create In Motion Dance Family” which was created and directed by Brandon Jackson. In the same year, Diamond also joined Loyola’s first and only African Dance team known as “AfroDescent” and in her junior year, she became the co-director/choreographer of the team. After college, Diamond went on to eventually co-direct another Chicago based dance team known as “WeAreMINTCrew” which was created and led by Zhane Croft. Under the leadership of both Diamond and Zhane, the team won 1st place in a regional dance competition and went on to represent the United states in South Korea, where they placed 2nd against 13 other countries.
During the pandemic shut down, Diamond began utilizing social media as an outlet to continue sharing her love for dance with the world in hopes of inspiring others to stay motivated and encouraged during those times. She started off creating dance content that featured covers of other choreographers works but eventually this ignited her passion to start featuring more of her own original choreographies as well. To this day, she continues to utilize social media as a way of inspiring others while also sharing her love for dance with the world.
Beyond all that Diamond has been able to accomplish throughout her career, nothing is more grounding and meaningful than being able to transfer the knowledge from these experiences to other aspiring artists. Diamond received her first role as an instructor through a program called “Symphony of Change”. For her, it felt like a full circle moment when she worked as a teaching artist for the program, teaching street jazz and hip hop to 5th and 6th grade CPS students after school.
To date, Diamond is currently a proud member of “BANG BANG! Dance Company” which is an affiliate hip hop training company of “BOOM CRACK Dance Company” led and directed by Trae Turner and Krista Ellensohn. While a part of the company she continues to build upon her knowledge in various elements of Hip Hop and it is her intention to be able to utilize these skills, as well as her experiences and creativity to transform and inspire the minds of the young artists here at extensions!
