Julia Foster
Bio
Julia began dancing at the young age of four at Dance Time Studios Inc in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, gymnastics and pointe for 14 years there and under instructors from Point Park University. She competed with the studios childrens company in several large scale competitions including NYCDA, I Love Dance, Rainbow and more. She began as an assistant teacher at the age of 15 and was teaching on her own at 18.
Julia moved to Chicago in 1999 where she majored in Dance Education from Columbia College Chicago. There she continued her studies in all styles and forms of dance. In 2001, Julia became the Head Dance Coach for the Jones College Prep Dance Team, taking the team to the State Finals year after year for ten years. During this time, she also began teaching childrens classes in tap, jazz and ballet for FFC Gym in the South Loop.
In 2005, Julia formed her own Hip Hop Dance company, GraffitiDancers. The company peformed all over the city of Chicago and the Midwest and was the first Hip Hop Company in Chicago to host its own large scale production in 2006. Over the course of the next seven years, Julia was priviledged enough to choreograph alongside other dancers for DJ Flipside two years in a row for the B96 Bash, she choreographed for MMA Champion Jason Miller for his arena fight in Chicago, she was the choreographer for a Coyote Ugly Themed bar in Highland, Indiana and was then brought on to help critique for several other high school dance teams as she was juding for Illinois Dance Team Association. After selling her company in 2012, Julia began coaching dance at Saint Ignatius College Prep and teaching Hip Hop and Tumbling at Daystar School. She has taught at Tumbling. Acro, and dance at several studios including Steps Dance Center, Intrigue Dance Studio, Movement & Sound and currently at Center Stage Dance Studio.
